My beautiful Children of Blog.
I have a brief confession and request for assistance, if you would be so kind as to indulge me. First, please forgive me on the awful post title. It's bad; I know it's bad. I was in a hurry, trying to quickly think of a movie about music. Of course The Sound of Music would have been a little obvious, don't you think? (That, and I didn't think of it until later.)
Anyway, I love music, but have neither the time nor inclination to really keep up with new bands. You can see what I tend to like over in the sidebar down on the right. Smart lyrics, good melodies. I am growing tired of looking at the same old CDs, both in my sidebar and on my iTunes music library.
The "newer" bands I like are White Stripes and Audioslave. I picked up an Evanescence CD a while back I liked. I like "softer," groovier music, too, (the I Am Sam soundtrack with surprising Beatles covers is one of my favorites) and confess to a Dave Matthews Band weakness--but the music has to have something strong and raw to it, for it to move me. Of course women with great voices -- Tori Amos, Norah Jones, Chrissie Hynde, Alanis . . .
I DO NOT like "classic" American rock, generally. Can anyone help me out with some music selections to update my wardrobe, given these criteria? I know, I'm pathetic. I need help.
Please, people, for the love of God, don't let me end up like my mother, still rockin' it to Fleetwood Mac and Rod Stewart. And recently adding Celine Dion to her collection. Anyone able to introduce me to a new (or new to me) band I love gets a prize!

Blue October? Lacuna Coil?

The soundtrack to the movie 'Until the End of the World'
I'll give you a double-your-money back garantee that you'll love it.

Amethyst: Red December? Copper Cobra? OH, these are BANDS, not secret code. See how much help I need? I'm actually listening to Lacuna Coil right now, and it is growing on me, thanks for the recommendation!! I will look for the Blue Oct. CD that's most recommended (wasn't on iTunes).
Dongeek: This looks right up my alley! I had to order the actual (gasp) CD as it wasn't on iTunes. So, if you are due a prize, it will have to wait a couple days. Thanks!!

Popeye: Okay, another CD ordered! Thanks!! See how easy it is to get me to spend my hard earned money?
Much public gushing praise to be awarded Monday for my favorite recommendation.

Smart lyrics, huh. That's my girl! Okay, Carrie Newcomer. Take two albums, and call me in the morning.

ahhh... music. Some current favorites spinning in my hard drive are: Squirrel Nut Zippers, Soul Coughing (Lust in Phaze) & Alix Olson (although she's kind of a mix of hard, fast talkin' put to music with a song here & there... Now SHE has me thinking about gettin' naked with a woman, the way she half laughs, half snarls, half whispers out certain things. Yep. Ummm... yeah. Music) :)
...none of these are "new" though. :)

...oh. AND just thought of some other favorites. :)
Dead Can Dance
Sigur Ros
Beasts of Paradise
& I'm partial to Beck's "Guero" and The Gorillaz "Demon Days" and "The L Word" soundtrack(s). :)

Diana Krall sings some rather lovely blues-y/jazzy stuff as well... (I'm going through my music files now :)

Supreme Beings of Leisure-- Loungy, sexy
Have you ever subscribed to "Paste" magazine? They review and share a great selection of new, not well known music, plus they send sampler CDs and DVDs with short films and music videos with every issue. I love them.

Tiger and Neena: Thanks for the suggestions! I have actually heard of/listened to some of these. I will check these out as much as my shrinking budget will allow and report back! You gals are the best!

One of my very favorite things to do is tell people what music to listen to! I think you should check out the Thrills, the Gunga Din, Elysian Fields, and hmmmmm....I burned you a Sigmatropic CD, which you should listen to some day. I should have posted some of George Sefaris' Haiku on that other blog. He is my favorite Haiki poet and Sigmatropic's album is called 16 Haiku and Other Stories. Good stuff.

This is from my buddy C (who fucking E-MAILED me his comment): Also on your music recommendation post— Until the end of the World has been one of my favorite albums since it was released. I still listen to it all the time. Garden State soundtrack is also excellent. I’ve recently got into a couple of fringy british bands that are a bit hard to find except on bittorrent.
Archive – kinda a cross of U2, Pink Floyd, and a bit of Oasis but each album is pretty different.
The Servant – Little Oasisy but not as loud. Their song “Cells” was on the “Sin City” movie trailer—very catchy.
Be happy
